India may not constantly have had a population of over a billion people, but the subcontinent has always been home to lots of faiths, ethnic cultures and realms, so there is far more than one story here of LGBTQ+ rights and recognition. Generally, though, India was historically tolerant of LGBTQ+ connections, with the exception of the mainly Islami
